Submission Guidelines

The Ghent Reader publishes poetry, fiction, essays and nonfiction by anyone with ties to Hampton Roads, Va. The Ghent Reader welcomes previously published works and considers all literary styles.

Hampton Roads, according to the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, includes the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg; and the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Mathews, Southampton, Surry and York; and Currituck in North Carolina.

When submitting to the Ghent Reader, send at least four, but no more than six, poems; two short stories; or two essays at any time. All submissions must include the author's name, address, phone number and a short bio connecting the author or artist to the area. When submitting previously published material, please indicated the original publisher and publication date.

We ask artists and photographers to submit digital copies of their work or a link to a Website featuring their work. All submissions must include the author's name, address, phone number and a short bio connecting the author or artist to the area.

We only accept emailed submissions: GhentReader@GhentReader.com.

The Ghent Reader requests First North American Serial Rights (of original works) and nonexclusive use of Internet and Electronic Rights. The Reader also request the nonexclusive right to reprint works submitted to us twice in print.
