How do you know it’s spring in Ghent? The annual Renewal art show will open with a reception 7 p.m. this Friday, April 24, 2009 at The Warehouse in Ghent. The show will feature over 50 artists with themes “inspired by the cultural and spiritual themes associated with creation, resurrection and rebirth.” Music will be provided by DJ k@t.

To learn more about the philosophy of the opening reception and exhibit, visit Symphonic for the City’s Web site. Symphonic is the church hosting the event.

Renewal’s organizers – Renee Alexander Hamilton, Casey Clark and Alicia Luma Stoner (as listed on the Renewal Art Show’s Facebook group)- posted their “call to artists” all over Hampton Roads, but it’s probably best to read the one posted by Hannah Serrano, editor of 24SevenCities.com and one of the three judges for this year’s show. James Davis, an artist and pastor, blogged about his work being accepted into this year’s show. He posts a photo of his contribution, and he offers detailed directions.
