Annie Douglas, Ghent’s queen storyteller
There’s a storyteller in Ghent. Annie Douglas weaves narratives in the Tolkien tradition and hosts a regular “cruinnaiu,” story-telling circle, in Ghent.
Her tales spin forth from her book “The Queen’s Rune and Other Tales of the Sidhe” filled with demigod elves who live in an alternate reality with a story familiar and a language all their own. She invites others to share their stories during the next cruinnaiu April 18.
The cruinnaiu has many purposes: It is a celebration of poets, storytellers and oral historians. It also is a invitation to join the world of “The Queen’s Rune and Other Tales of the Sidhe,” which will be available for purchase this July.
During the last cruinnaiu gathering, stories blossomed into song. Who knows what will happen during the next one! Join the cruinnaiu mailing list to find out.
In the meantime, enjoy some impressionist photos of Annie, who is also known as Shannon Avery and sometimes as an honorary child of the Sidhe:
